A Vision for Society – Based on Plato’s ‘The Republic’

“The Republic”, written by Plato more than 2500 years ago, is considered one of the most influential and important philosophical books in politics and on how to govern a city well.

Plato has inspired many writers through the centuries as well as more recent times, asking themselves: ‘What is required to govern a society justly and well?’

Great civilisations had visions reaching far into their future and we can still be inspired by some of the remnants they left behind; in architecture, art, science and mythology.

In “The Republic” Plato seeks to describe the many facets of the Ideal state, including the art of governing and the important union of wisdom and power.

Can we reach an Ideal state? What is Justice and how can we live it in a collectivity?
