The experience we are going to talk about takes place during the advent of modernity in the middle of Victorian England, where the Theosophical Society will start.
The work that its founder, Helena Petrovna Blavatsky (known as HPB), will have to do is simply colossal. We are in a corseted world, with narrow moral values. She finds herself in a mentally narrow and rigid society.
In that world, talking about consciousness, evolution, timeless laws is very difficult. The Theosophical Society will therefore start by dedicating itself to popularising the philosophy of the East, in a world that is totally unaware of it, and to seek to make esoteric Buddhism known, in an attempt to overcome the materialist and religious views of that time.
HPB will try to show that it is possible to have another conception of reality in which consciousness would find its place at the centre.
